yeah, yeah…I know what you are thinking. “Cleaning??? Who posts about cleaning??” Well, maybe not many people but I just have to share.
So after cooking last night I was looking at our stove-top and realized that the burners were looking kinda gross. I decided that today I would clean them out. So this afternoon I start the task of pulling out the heating elements and the drip pan things underneath (i do not know their technical name). So I put the drip pan things soaking in some soapy water and decide to pull up the whole top of the stove (did not know it could do this..Andrew told me last night) to see if it was dirty or not. And oh my heavens! It was indeed dirty. I am actually embarrassed to admit how gross it was! I’m hanging onto the fact that two boys lived here before I did and really did not do much cleaning AND a family with two small kids lived here before the two boys and I do not think they were very clean either. So…all that to say I had to scrub pretty hard to get it clean.
So after I clean the underneath I start scrubbing the drip pan thingies..and man that was a job! I won’t go into details but let me just say, the water was no longer clear when I finished.
45 minutes later and I now have a very clean and good looking (as good looking as a stove top can be) stove top!
A little piece of advice: If you don’t want to go through all that trouble and work just pretend that you don’t know the top of the stove can lift up. You will feel much better about the whole situation.

Whew! What a busy, fun weekend. Here are some things that went on:
Friday Andrew and I went to eat at Shogun in Vintage Park with our Life Group class. Good food, fun people and great conversations made the night alot of fun! Afterwards Andrew and I came home and watched Valkyrie with Tom Cruise. It was ok…I won’t ever watch it again though.
Saturday morning Tara had the first grade team over for a brunch and swimming. Once again there was great food, fun people and good conversations! Definitely a fun time with co-workers! Here are some pictures from the morning:
Stacy and Cadence
I mean really…who wouldn’t have fun with that little cutie pie??? (sorry ladies, most of my pictures were of Cadence)
Christi, Tara and Debbie swimming
Saturday night Andrew and I cooked fajitas and had a scrumptious dinner together! Here’s a pic of Andrew cooking:
Andrew and the fajitas
After dinner we headed over to Drew’s Pastry Place for some dessert and coffee. The place had a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Sadly, the cake was not so great. But…we decided to give Drew’s another chance, hopefully they will be better next time.
hummingbird cake, 2 decaf coffees
Our not so great cake…but the coffee was good.
Today we went to church, had some lunch then Andrew did school work and I cleaned the house and did laundry. Tonight for dinner I made our second fish dish. It was baked fish with parmesan-sour cream sauce. Yummo! It was so easy and very, very tasty. I will post the recipe under the recipe category. Here is a picture:
What a great weekend! Hope you enjoyed the pictures.

So every summer I try to have several projects or plans to keep me busy. Last summer my “project” was getting ready for our wedding (which has been one of the best projects yet!) This summer I have several things I would like to get done.
Here are some things I would like to do:
1. finish my recipe book
2. put all my pictures from high school, college and wedding pictures in photo albums
3. clean our townhouse thoroughly
4. cook some new scrumptious recipes
5. read, read, read
6. visit families at least one more time before school starts back up
Whew! Sounds like another fun, busy summer!

Quite a while back Andrew and I started talking about how we had the desire to study something together. After thinking about it a while we decided to start reading books together…no, it’s not like we sit around every evening reading aloud from our book selection…but to read a book that would help us grow closer to God, and in turn grow closer to one another.
Total Forgiveness by R.T. Kendall was our first book to read. We would read a chapter a week and then come together to discuss parts that were interesting to us or challenged us. Let me just say, it has been a great experience. So many times he sees things in ways that I do not, and we are able to challenge and encourage each other through that. And man, oh man, did that book challenge me! I always thought I knew how to forgive people, until I read this. It’s like…”what? you want me to forgive that person who said nasty things about me and then pray for God to bless them???” From personal experiences, the Bible and Jesus’ example R.T. teaches you what total forgiveness is, how to know you’ve totally forgiven, when you are right to judge, forgiving and forgetting, and then how to forgive totally. It’s an awesome book, I recommend that everyone read it.
The book we are reading right now is called Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper. I read this book during college and loved it and now am excited about reading it again. It’s amazing how being in a different point in my life can make a book I’ve already read seem brand new. Right now I’m thinking and praying about this: “But whatever you do, find the God-centered, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated passion of your life, and find your way to say it and live for it and die for it. And you will make a difference that lasts. You will not waste your life. ” (Piper) Whew! These are the kinds of things that Andrew and I talk about with our books. What a great way to grow closer together! I recommend this book as well.
And on top of that I plan to do some easy reading. Dana (my mother-in-law) gave me a book series that she likes so I think I will try that out! I love reading during the summer and am really looking forward to it!
So, go out and get those books and…Happy Reading!

So today at work I asked one of my students, who will be called “joe” for safety’s sake, to come and read a book with me. Joe has a ton of energy, and sometimes just can’t control himself (which I can relate to). So I show him the book and read the title to him which is Food for Zebras. Right away he says..”Ohhh, what do Zebras eat?” So I tell him that he will have to read to find out.
So Joe excitedly dives into the book and starts reading. But, he only gets through the first page before he has to say something again. He looks up at me and says…”Mrs. Maddox, did you hear what we are having for lunch today?” I tell him yes, but he proceeds to inform me that they are having chicken nuggets and macaroni. He then gets this huge smile on his face and says..(very loudly) “I’ve ALWAYS wanted chicken nuggets and macaroni!” “ALWAYS!!!” So I reply, “Wow Joe! Are you excited?” To which he replies, “Yeah! Who wouldn’t be???” To that I laugh and laugh and just can’t stop. It was so funny to hear him get so excited about chicken nuggets and macaroni.
I’m telling you….never a dull moment, never. Did I mention that I love my job??
This picture has nothing to do with my post….I just wanted to put it up!

This afternoon I attended a staff development. I was really hoping it would be beneficial and not a waste of time (as many staff developments are) but sadly, I was let down big time! The ladies who were in charge of the presentation just read information to us, did not give me any new ideas for teaching, and really just wasted my time. It was so frustrating. Ugh. I just think, there could have been so many different ways to present the information and make it completely useful, but they really dropped the ball. Too bad the presenters did not ask my opinion. Oh well…onto happier topics!
Andrew is almost done with my blog. It looks so super cute and I can’t wait for everyone (like I think that many people will read my blog) to see it!
Seven more days of summer school! I have definitely gotten spoiled, only teaching for half a day, no duties, and only 8 kids. What an easy way to earn some extra money….vacation money! Yay!

No….not our proposal. Andrew and I went on a day date today! He did not have work today, and I’m teaching half day summer school so we decided to go on a date. We went to see The Proposal with Sandra Bullock. It was pretty cute. There were some really funny parts, and some really weird parts. I enjoyed it though. I do think one of the best parts was listening to the older ladies next to me laughing and having a great time. It made me smile.
I love going on dates with Andrew. No matter what we do, it is always so much fun. I know that will continue throughout our marriage…and that is exciting!

Hello! And welcome to my blog. I am really excited to start this! I”m hoping it will be a great way to keep family and friends updated on my life. I never really thought much about blogs, until I started reading my friends and families. Then, I actually started getting quite addicted. It’s not very cute now, but Andrew promised he would work on that. I know he will make it look perfect!
So….I hope you enjoy reading!
